The Briggs & Riley Winter Sale

It’s my favorite time of the year…lots of great after-Christmas sales. All those wonderful items that were full price in December, have suddenly found a home on the sale shelf. As the sale diva that I am, I am extremely happy to find that Briggs & Riley is having a terrific Winter Sale, offering the fine Briggs & Riley luggage at sale prices up to 30% off.

So, why am I interested? With the recent increase in airline checked bag fees (ok, United, what's with the $25 for the first checked bag??), I’ve decided that for all my airline travel I’m simply going to take a good carry-on bag. The carry on size doesn’t matter to me, as much as my new carry on bag must meet all the airline carry on luggage size restrictions. And, recognize that there is a difference between international carry on size and domestic airline carry on size dimensions.  Personally I think all the airline carry on luggage restrictions are simply too confusing. Would it be so hard to get all the airlines together and come to one simple  carry on size that meets all the airlines, domestic or international, carry on luggage restrictions? One reason that I love Briggs & Riley carry-on bags so much, is that Briggs offers a huge choice: the traditional 22” carry on bag, a 21” expandable carry on size, a 20” carry on luggage upright and also, the new wide body carry on bag. WOW. Certainly among all these carry on sizes I can find something to meet the airline carry on luggage regulations. Let’s hope, anyway.

Back to Briggs & Riley and the Briggs & Riley Winter Sale… Briggs & Riley is a brand known to virtually every frequent flyer. It’s extremely well made luggage and carries a lifetime warranty. That’s incredible for a luggage brands so I’ll repeat the key words, lifetime warranty.

Every bag Briggs sells is backed by the Briggs & Riley warranty… the “Simple as That” guarantee. If your travel bag is ever broken or damaged, regardless of how it happened, they will repair it free of charge… hence the moniker ‘simple as that’!  This lifetime luggage warranty applies to carry-on bags, wheeled upright luggage, their entire expandable luggage line (think zippers that get damaged here) and their entire line of messenger bags and computer briefcases. When you want really fine luggage at a fair price, Briggs & Riley luggage is the top choice. Ask any frequent flyer. And, now with the Briggs & Riley Winter Sale going on, it makes even more sense to buy a good Briggs & Riley carry on bag to meet all those airline regulations for carry ons. The Briggs Winter Sale includes a huge selection of carry on bags from both the Baseline and Transcend collections. My personal favorite for an overnight (ok you can stretch it to two days) is the Briggs & Riley 20 inch carry on computer upright (BR LC U420NB). For a good piece of luggage that meets every airline carry on luggage requirement, and my own personal need to haul my laptop everywhere… this is the perfect bag for any air travel carry on. I’ll even put it to the test for international airline carry on regulations when I travel to Canada next month. Quebec here I come, eh.

The only real downside to purchasing Briggs & Riley luggage is that it is virtually never on sale. Briggs is considered a MAP (manufacturer approved pricing) vendor, so no matter where you go to purchase Briggs, it’s the same price. Further, it is virtually never on sale…until now. Pick a new Briggs & Riley carry-on during the Briggs & Riley Winter Sale and you’ll save up to 30% and have a lifetime companion.

Checked Luggage – Will Your Luggage Make it to Your Destination?

The shift in luggage in the last few years has been to carry-on luggage. The motivation for this shift has been largely due to the fees charged by airlines for checked bags and the ever present feeling in your gut that your checked luggage, just won’t make it to your destination.
The good news comes on two fronts:

  • Luggage manufacturers have updated the traditional carry-on bag, adding both features and new sizes for better accommodation in the overhead bin

  • There are some travel accessories that may help prevent your bag from getting lost.

The new wide-body carry-on bag offers more packing capability and still meets the 45 linear inch requirements of most major airlines. A number of top luggage manufacturers including: Briggs & Riley, Victorinox and Hartmann offer this bag.  Personally, I favor the Briggs & Riley 20” ,this wide body carry-on bag features a speed thru pocket, the smart-link for attaching additional bags and carries the lifetime warranty.
Travel accessories may help in keeping your bag from being ‘confused’ with other bags and hence, disappear. Here are a couple of suggestions: Lewis N Clark’s Large Neon Luggage Tags and Lewis N Clark ‘Pomchies’

The airline regulations and charges are like the Chicago weather…why not keep it simple and go with the wide body and keep your luggage safely on board with you!
